Lake Winnemucca
Description:
This is a high elevation walk and there is one short stretch that is rated 2C. Be prepared for wind and rain. Insect repellant is advisable. Late afternoon downpours are common in the Sierras as well as low humidity – bring lots of water. You will be entering the Mokelumne Wilderness, so there are no services, only beautiful scenery. This easy hike takes you to Lake Winnemucca, named for Paiute Chief Winnemucca. The route takes you to a pristine wilderness lake at the base of Round Top Peak. This walk gives you the most "bang for the buck" when it comes to effort and scenic reward. The 6K walk goes to Frog Lake, a smaller and less scenic pond. Snow runoff waterfalls are seasonal depending on how much snow fell the previous winter.
