Margaret Thornburg (1924-2007) began Volkssporting with her husband in Germany and was a very active walker until injuries resulting from an auto accident made it too difficult to walk. That didn't stop her; she took up cycling instead. Margaret joined the Sacramento Walking Sticks in 1986 and regularly attended the monthly membership meetings and helped out at events. She helped develop many of the clubs early walks, including the walk now named in her memory, and even a developed a swim. Among her accomplishments was completion of walks in all 50 states. Margaret was a regular on the walks and bikes and could be spotted proudly wearing her vest adorned with the many pins and patches that she collected over the years Volkssporting. Margaret, thank you for your many contributions to our club and the sport. CA Counties: Sacramento. (25k = 15.5 miles, 35k = 21.7 miles) This paved trail travels along the beautiful American River with lovely views in this natural setting. Birds and animals thrive in this Riparian habitat.
